Stainless Steel Grill

When choosing a grill, the material that your grill is made of is often an important factor in deciding which grill is right for you. Grills are normally made of cast aluminum, cast iron, sheet metal or stainless steel. Stainless steel is the option most preferred by professionals, however there are some things you should take into consideration before purchasing a stainless steel grill.

The first thing to take into consideration is upkeep. Upkeep is important no matter what kind of grill you have, and just because your grill is stainless steel does not mean it will not stain or possibly even rust if you do not take proper care of your grill. While you tend to pay for what you get when it comes to grills, even cheap grills can last a long time if you take good care of it, so don’t be fooled by the name “stainless steel” – just because it is durable doesn’t mean it is invulnerable.

Also, manufactures have been known to cut corners when it comes to stainless steel, so make sure that you are truly buying a stainless steel grill.  Sometimes they will paint steel frames to look like stainless steel. These painted steel frames tend to rust though fairly quickly, so make sure that the grill is actually a stainless steel grill. Also, sometimes manufacturers will make only certain parts of the grill out of stainless steel, so make sure your grill is made entirely of stainless steel (a magnet may be able to help you in this task)

Stainless steel is also a great material for grates. Stainless steel grates will last much longer than regular steel grates, and will provide a quality grilling surface. Bare cast iron grates are also a good grate option, but are very high maintenance and require a lot of upkeep.  Stainless steel grates are fairly low maintenance and will perform well with most anything you are cooking. However, make sure you do occasional upkeep on your grates along with the rest of your grill- a properly maintained grill is a grill that will last for many years to come.

Also, stainless steel grills can come with a higher price tag. However, they are chic, stylish, and come highly recommended by many professional grillers.  As long as you do your research before buying and take proper care of your grill, you can be ensured many years of happy grilling.
